James "Buster" Douglas (born April 7, 1960) is an American former professional boxer who competed between 1981 and 1999. He is best known for his ten round battle with Mike Tyson on February 11, 1990, in Tokyo, Japan. The seemingly invincible Tyson was a 42 to 1 favorite going into the fight. At the time Tyson was undefeated and considered the best boxer in the world as well as the most feared heavyweight champion in history due to his domination of the division over the previous three years. Tyson was so heavily favored to win that only one casino (The Mirage) would give odds on the fight. Boxing experts predicted Buster would be lucky to make it out of the first round. Buster got up off of the canvas after being knocked down in round eight. In round ten, Buster shocked the world by knocking out Tyson to become the undisputed World Heavyweight Boxing Champion. His incredible victory, against 42 to 1 odds, is recorded as the greatest upset in boxing history. In 2019 ESPN featured the documentary 42 to 1 chronicling Buster’s journey to the championship. The acclaimed documentary inspired the James “Buster” Douglas World Championship 30th Anniversary to celebrate Buster and everyone who has a 42 to 1 story. The mission of the anniversary celebration is to build a platform to share Buster’s 42 to 1 story and raise funds to provide programs and services for youth whose success in life would be against all odds.

Buster is a long-time philanthropist and mentor. He has funded housing for homeless families and scholarships for gifted students from broken homes. He has welcomed wayward youth into his home, provided parental guidance and supplied their everyday needs. The James “Buster” Douglas World Championship 30th Anniversary is a fundraiser for Brightway Center—an established youth organization that Buster supports. Brightway Center serves thousands of youth each year, providing services and programs that foster character and leadership development. The James “Buster” Douglas World Championship 30th Anniversary is scheduled for February 7, 2020 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Columbus, Ohio—his hometown. Buster greatly appreciates your interest and would love to meet you in person.
